Ian Jones

Ian has more than 20 years experience in economic consulting, with a focus on the transport sector.

Currently, he is Director of his own firm, Croft Consulting, and a partner in PQCROFT, a joint venture with PQAXIS.

Ian was appointed in 2005 as a member of the UK Competition Commission.

His experience in the airport sector includes:

  • Several reports to the European Commission on market based instruments for the allocation of slots and on the impact of liberalization on both the demand for airport capacity and the competitive conditions of small European airlines.

  • Advice to BAA, the CAA and the Competition Commission on regulated airport charges in the UK.

  • Advice to private investors on different aspects of the part privatised National Air Traffic Services Ltd (NATS).

  • Advice to Aer Rianta, the Irish airport operator, on a wide variety of regulatory and competition issues.

  • Provision of expert witness testimony on behalf of the Irish Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR).

  • Advice to the Government of Cabo Verde and ASA, the airport operator, on a wide variety on issues including business planning, financial modelling and the reorganisation of the airport system.

  • Other projects on different aspects of the economic regulation of airports and air traffic control around the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Zambia, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Dubai, Peru and Colombia.

Ian headed the transport practice of NERA-London from 1986 to 2003 and previously held several academic and government positions.

He has a MA in Economics from Cambridge University.
